LITTLE HEART K9’S LUCKY 13 #58: F IS FOR FOSTER, WELCOME CHLOE

Little Heart K9 is still in a place of transition. We are living our best semi-feral life as a guest at a ranch NW of Phoenix, AZ.

A permanent location to re-open for dog daycare and dog boarding has not been secured yet. In the meantime, I’m doing what I can for the dogs. Recently, I looked at Maricopa County’s available dogs page and the day I looked there were over 70 German Shepherds, Shepherd mixes, and 4 Belgian Malinois available for adoption. This extremely high number of Shepherds in just one shelter is unacceptable. I made a next-morning appointment to meet the two female Malinois’, but both were adopted the evening before.

I contacted Trish at Saving Paws Rescue, a rescue that we fostered for several years ago. SPR dogs came home with us as fosters, for training, for evaluation of potential behavioral issues, or rehab for behavioral issues. These dogs went on to find qualified adopters and a handful became permanent pack members.

I visited with Trish at the “dog house” and met a few of her rescue dogs. We agreed Chloe, a one year old, female, Belgian Malinois would be a good fit to come home with me and my boys as a foster dog. I have two male Belgian Malinois dogs, Liam and Vader, both rescue dogs, age 2 years and 4 years. I will spend some time with Chloe, see what she needs to be the very best adoptable Malinois she can be. Hopefully, a suitable adopter can be found for Miss Chloe so that we can help her find her furever home. If you’re interested in meeting or adopting Chloe, she will be available through Saving Paws Rescue: Adoption Form

Day one: Chloe (center) with Vader and Liam.
Day one: As with most Belgian Malinois, Chloe likes to be busy.
Day one: Chloe is going to be a wonderful companion for her perfect adopter. She’s only been with me for a few hours. She’s shown me she’s dog-friendly but may need a little guidance meeting new fur friends. She would like a home with a wading pool. She knows “sit” and “down”, and is very affectionate with people. She needs a little guidance with potty training (it’s only day one, this is normal). As she settles in, she’ll get some real world exposure to help her learn and grow.

Chloe (green collar) is settling in well. She’s a good girl and a lucky someone will adopt a great companion. Chloe has cerebellar hypoplasia, which affects her balance. She has adapted to this really well, there is no cure for it, nor will it get worse. Sometimes she stumbles or will lean on you. Chloe can walk, run, and play just fine. She likes my boys. On occasion she tries to assert dominance, which could be immaturity at her young age, she is learning what is and what is not appropriate. She’s very smart, and still a little mischievous, Chloe can open lever door handles. She likes to see what’s on countertops but knows she’s not supposed to. Chloe has low prey drive, but in typical Malinois fashion, she likes to have a toy in her mouth. As a reminder, Chloe is available for adoption through Saving Paws Rescue.
Chloe.
We received some much needed rain in Central Arizona. Chloe and my boys had so much fun running in the rain and playing.
Rainy day Chloe.
