Little Heart K9 is a 501(C)(3) non-profit organization located in Green Valley, Arizona. In addition to dog daycare and dog boarding, Little Heart K9 is committed to rescuing, fostering, rehabilitating, and finding qualified adopters for rescued dogs. We also provide safe sanctuary for pets who cannot be safely adopted due to behavioral issues, health issues, advanced age, or for other reasons.
Since 2006, Little Heart K9’s full time commitment has been saving lives by rescuing, fostering, rehabilitating, and training dogs rescued from shelters, owner surrenders, or dogs at risk of euthanasia. “Lucky 13” is the space within the pack reserved for a rescue dog. With the purchase of this property, we can expand our sanctuary space to include non-dog rescue animals, i.e., chickens, turkeys, goats or sheep, llama or alpaca, small animal rescue i.e., guinea pigs and/or rats, the possibilities are endless. Little Heart K9 will create a sanctuary space where the rescued animals will be named and loved. They will have a safe space to thrive with proper nutrition, enrichment, comfort, and appropriate veterinary care.
Little Heart K9 has the opportunity to purchase acreage zoned as commercial in the heart of Tucson that includes two small homes. These homes have been lovingly maintained by a client who adopted a rescue dog from us, supports what we do, and will continue to support us in years to come. Historically, this property has been one of service to others, and Little Heart K9 will continue to nurture the heart and soul of this property. We will utilize the space to give the dogs more room to roam and expand our sanctuary capabilities to include animals of all kinds.
The vision for this property is a safe space where dogs and other animals will do more than just survive, they will thrive. The property will include two to three individually fenced dog safe yards with a walking path where the dogs and I can stroll together while the dogs sniff and play utilizing the entire property as a form of enrichment. To beautify the property with native trees and plants providing shade and flowering plants that attract bees and butterflies. Add benches along the walking path as a place to sit, relax, and to create memorial benches in the future. Water features for the dogs will be added as the space comes together in a way that best serves the dogs and other sanctuary animals. We will have our own little oasis in the heart of Tucson.
In mid-September, three words came to mind: LOVE, HOPE, PRAY. Due to the effects of Coronavirus, the little business I have worked so hard to build, has been affected. I am not giving up. The rescue dogs and I have tremendous loyalty and support from amazing dog loving followers and I am so grateful. I will remain true to my passion, the dogs, growth, and the vision for our future. I have seen what’s possible for others, and I believe it is possible for Little Heart K9, too.
Funds raised will make a number of things possible: purchase of the property, taking care of some immediate needs to keep the dogs safe such as multiple dog safe fenced yards, add crushed granite or another suitable ground cover, plant native trees for shade (grow, little tree, grow!), add native flowering plants, water features such as ponds or pools, and so much more for the dogs. Funds also help with ongoing needs such as food, comfort items, veterinary care, transportation, and more. Most importantly in these uncertain times, savings for stability, a safe space for the dogs and for future sanctuary animals.
As a 501(C)(3) non-profit, your donation is tax deductible. Additional reasons to donate: my birthday is in October, donate for the dogs, for the possibilities, donate for the sanctuary dogs past and present, sanctuary animals that will be saved in the future, donate for Halloween, Thanksgiving, Hanukkah, Christmas, or New Years. Every donation helps, large or small, we are grateful beyond measure.
Thank you, thank you, thank you, from Laura and the pack at Little Heart K9.
